Stained Glass Pixels

This is an interactive, animated stained glass box that examines the relationship between technology, surveillance, and religion. A monitor placed beneath the glass displays looping animations connected to an Arduino sensor that detects how close you are. The closer you get, the more vivid the display becomes — filling with blinking eyes, shifting colors, and flickering pixels. As you move away, the imagery fades. Surrounding sound effects of whispers and organ music create the feeling of an internal dialogue, as if you’re confessing your thoughts to both God and the ever-present eyes of technology.

This was made in collaboration with Anna Zhang, Mave Mendoza, Dave Fowler, Myko Huff, and Noah Aust in 3 days.

Initially inspired by my “Lonely Pixels” animation of Gerhard Richter’s stained glass in the Cologne Cathedral, I was so excited by the opportunity to lead this project.

More documentation to come. This will be exhibited at Open Sauce 2025
